History

Mike was as a Master auto tech from 1983 until he became a certified H-D tech in 1987. In 1987 he was bitten by the speed bug when he was drag racing his instructor Kurt Heinrichs' 1968 88" stroker XLCH at Orlando Motor Speedway. His first dealership job came in 1988 and he was in the first class of Harley-Davidson Certified Master Technicians.

Since then he has dedicated his career to developing and improving on performance builds because he found off the shelf solutions lacking. He has also built bikes from the ground up and performed complete restorations.

Mike has been tapped for product testing and research by IronWorks magazine. Testing new exhausts, intakes and other go-fast goodies to see just what they did. He is also a regular contributor to IronWorks with his section called ShopTime.

When it comes to performance, experience is key. In the early nineties Mike was building 100hp/100lb-ft of torque 80" Evo motors. A decade later he crossed the 120lb-ft of torque mark with a 95" version of the new twin cam motor. Fast forward again to a 130whp 1250cc V-Rod in 2008, a 140whp 113" Ultra. He has produced daily ridden, cross country reliable 120whp 103" motors and even a beastly 135whp 103" Softail. All of those numbers are naturally aspirated by the way.

From his first year at the Bub Speed Trials at Bonneville Salt Flats in 2009 with the Buell Brothers Racing team to last years six land speed records. Mike is constantly pushing to get more out of the v-twin powerplant. Working closely with S&S he was part of the team of Riley, Fischer, Witt that fielded in 2012 the record destroying, 100 cubic inch, 150+whp Gray Ghost II Sportster. During that process his input was actively sought by engineers at S&S on functionality improvements that could be made to components used in the build.
